Chrissy Teigen Celebrated Her Mom Becoming a U.S. Citizen With the Cutest Video

Chrissy Teigen‘s mom, Vilailuck Teigen—known affectionately as “Yāy” to Teigen’s online fans—is officially a U.S. citizen.

Teigen took to Twitter on Tuesday evening to share a video of her mom, who’s originally from Thailand, reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. In the clip, Vilailuck can be seen holding her two-year-old granddaughter, Luna, who’s waving an American flag in honor of her grandmother’s accomplishment. “YES MOM!! Congrats @pepperthai2!!” the cookbook author captioned the post. John Legend also celebrated his mother-in-law’s big day, sharing the video to his own feed and adding, “@Pepperthai2 became a US citizen today! 100% on her test!”

The congratulatory comments flowed in. “I got my citizenship last year, congrats to your mom!!!!” wrote one Twitter user. “That is really, really beautiful. Congratulations!!! I’m told that test is quite hard and that anyone born here would probably fail it so good on ya!! To hold your beautiful granddaughter while being sworn in is divine. Blessings!” added another.

Vilailuck lives with Teigen and Legend in Los Angeles, and is a constant fixture on her daughter’s feed. She also has her own iconic Instagram account—@pepperthai2—and has become an IG legend (pun very much intended) in her own right. She’s a doting grandmother and recipe whiz, and was one of the first guests on Luna’s hilarious YouTube channel.

Chrissy opened up to PopSugar earlier this year about the joys of having her mom live with her, and it’s safe to say that it sounds like the Teigen-Legend household is a nonstop, love-filled party thanks to Vilailuck’s constant presence.”It’s so helpful to have her live with us. She’s the most incredible grandma. Luna is so close with her. ‘Yāy’ means grandmother in Thai, so she goes ‘Yāy!’ all day long, and it’s just fun because my mom is a kid at heart. She just has so much energy, and I just lug myself at this point,” she said. “She somehow manages to squeeze Luna in and make her a priority. It’s crazy. There’s nothing wrong with having too much love. Luna has a lot of love around her.”

After Venom, Sony Makes Massive Deal With IMAX

Despite its negative critical reviews, Sony’s Venom has been a huge success with audiences and at the box office. The antihero film broke the October opening weekend record and has racked up over $463 million worldwide to date. Now, riding high off of that success, Sony has inked a massive deal with IMAX.

Sony Pictures Entertainment and IMAX have signed a long-term, multi-picture deal in the wake of Venom‘s prosperous box office, which was elevated by its performance on IMAX screens. According to The Hollywood Reporter, as part of the new deal, IMAX screens will be a component of Sony’s release strategy for its major 2019 tentpoles Spider-Man: Far From Home, the upcoming Men in Black spinoff and the sequel to Sony’s massive hit Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.

This is the first such deal between Sony and IMAX. Previously the two companies had one-off deals, as it was with Venom, where Sony films would be released in the giant screen format on a case-by-case basis. The $15.4 million Venom brought in on IMAX screens opening weekend compelled the exhibitor to make this relationship more permanent with a global slate deal that will bring more of Sony’s titles to the IMAX format. This puts Sony in the company of Warner Bros., Disney, Fox and Paramount, which all have such deals with IMAX.

The Sony titles, especially Spider-Man: Far From Home, help fill out IMAX’s 2019 tentpole release slate as it and the other aforementioned films will be remastered for and released in the IMAX format all over the globe. The global slate deal is also a win for Sony, as it can take advantage of IMAX cameras and the IMAX aspect ratio in the way Marvel Studios’ films have done before it.

Sony will also benefit from the higher ticket prices IMAX films command as audiences pay a little extra to see its tentpoles on the biggest screen possible. That should help drive the opening weekend and overall box office’s of Sony’s big 2019 movies.

This is proof positive that whether you liked it or not, Venom was a gamble that paid off for Sony. The Tom Hardy pic helped push Sony over $1 billion at the domestic box office and it was a hit with general audiences. Venom also got Sony’s seemingly risky, Spider-Man-less Spider-Verse off to a great start with a financial win.

Probably the biggest 2019 film releasing under this new Sony-IMAX deal and one that should look awesome on IMAX screens is Spider-Man: Far From Home, which kicks off the MCU’s Phase 4 on July 5, 2019. That’s just one of many giant blockbusters hitting theaters next year, so check out the rest in our 2019 release schedule.

Captain Marvel Theory: Why Carol Changes Her Costume In The New Movie

Costume changes are all the rage in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Superheroes from Captain America and Iron Man to Scarlet Witch and Spider-Man have altered their threads from movie to movie, with some characters — who’ve been around since the earliest days — sporting multiple looks that drastically evolve. We noticed that Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) sports two very different versions of her Captain Marvel costume in the first trailer for 2019’s Captain Marvel, but some new information might explain why she does it.

The differences boil down to color, and a little bit about design. The two costumes in question are the green-and-grey, followed by the majestic red-and-blue (largely considered the signature Captain Marvel costume design).

Because we have months until the next MCU movie, we spent way too much time overanalyzing each frame of the Captain Marvel trailer, and tried to come up with the continuity of the movie based on key reveals. And I think the costume is an important indicator of where scenes occur in the movie, and why Brie Larson is wearing certain suits in the trailer, and the promo images.

I’m going to have to dig deep into what we know about Captain Marvel, so if you don’t care to read an in-depth analysis of production, bail out now.

This discussion started when set photos of Brie Larson in her Captain Marvel suit appeared online. Carol Danvers (Larson) confronts a man who appears to be homeless, and by the time she’s finished, he is bowing down at her feet.

But fans didn’t notice that. They picked up on Carol’s green-emphasis suit. Rumors swirled at the time that the green is practical for filming when on a physical set, and that it could be properly colorized in post. To a certain extent that makes sense… only, Carol was still wearing the green suit when she popped up in the new trailer.

So, the green suit is part of the movie. But so is the red-and-blue — which also is featured prominently on the movie’s poster. That will be Carol’s suit. And there will be a reason. More on that in a second.

Carol’s wearing the green suit in scenes that we believe will take place in the early stages of the movie. Marvel President Kevin Feige has said that Captain Marvel will not be a traditional origin story, in that our hero will already have her powers when the movie starts. Carol, we understand, will arrive on Earth on some mission — crashing down into a Blockbuster Video in the 1990s — and will come to realize that she had a past on this planet… even though she has been fighting in the galaxies as part of the Kree warriors for years.

Here’s where our theory starts to take real shape. We recently reported that Marvel Comics is going to great lengths to change Carol’s origin. In the original narrative, Carol is swept up in the explosion of a Kree device, and the alien force gives her her powers.

The comic makes an important change, that we believe will affect the movie, and even explain the costume change from green to red. In the new Marvel Comics run of Carol Danvers stories, there’s still an explosion. But rather than just giving Carol powers, the Kree blast awakens genes that already were inside of her, instead of randomizing the power trigger. Carol was born to be a Kree fighter… because her mother was a Kree, as well.

It’s an interesting twist, having Carol be the child of a human and a Kree. It gives her a bond to both worlds (and yes, this draws a little from the Superman narrative, who had both alien parents and human parents, giving him loyalty and allegiance to two worlds). And it goes a long way to explaining the casting of Annette Bening in Captain Marvel. Because most reports say that Bening will be playing Carol’s mother in the movie.

And that means she’s playing an alien Kree, and also the first Captain Marvel.

We’re fully in speculation mode here. We have no clue what’s going to play out in Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s Captain Marvel movie. But the costume changes gave us a theory, and it goes something like this.

Carol Danvers is a veteran Kree warrior who arrives on Earth to track a Skrull (likely the grandmother that she punches on the train). She lands in Los Angeles, completes the mission (by punching the Skrull grandma), but is apprehended by a young Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and his Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. He tells Carol that she’s part of a bigger world, while also learning from her that there’s a whole galaxy of threats he might one day have to contend with. Fury begins to plot The Avengers Initiative.

Meanwhile, Carol can’t shake the lingering feeling that she had a past on Earth. We see, in the trailer, shots of young Carol overcoming obstacles as she grew up, and entering the military where she trained to be an ace pilot.

One important person missing from the trailer is Annette Bening’s character, but after the news of Marvel Comics tweaking Carol’s origin to more directly involve her mother, it hit us. Bening will play the original Captain Marvel. The red-and-blue number will be her original outfit. And at some point in the movie, Carol will switch over to it to honor her legacy as the daughter of Captain Marvel.

Captain Marvel will be an important movie for Marvel Studios for numerous reasons. By most accounts, Carol Danvers will be the strongest fighter in the MCU, and her might is exactly what the Avengers will need to rectify what Thanos started in Avengers: Infinity War. There’s a reason Fury texted her as he faded into dust during the Snappening.

But Captain Marvel also stands as the first solo Marvel story centered entirely around a female character, with all due respect to the strong female characters that Marvel Studios has introduced to this point. Having Carol stem from her mother, and wear her costume in tribute to that legacy, creates a very powerful subtext to the costume change that we see happen in Captain Marvel. Imagine the scene where Annette Bening passes the torch to Brie Larson by giving her the original costume?

Or, you know, it could just be a reason to sell more toys with alternate Captain Marvel costume designs.

But I don’t think that is the case. I believe that Annette Bening is playing the ORIGINAL Captain Marvel in the MCU. And I believe that she’ll pass her legacy on to Brie Larson, signified by the costume change from green to red and blue. It makes the costume change more significant, and way more emotional.

Do you agree? Disagree? We have several more months to debate it, as Captain Marvel doesn’t open in theaters until March 8, 2019. Be sure to bookmark our Upcoming Marvel Movies guide, and then hop into the comments to continue this discussion.

Nightwing Director Chris McKay Says The Movie’s Not Dead

Warner Bros. has a lot of DC Comics related plates spinning right now. While many different projects have been announced, many of them are in nebulous states of development. One of the films we haven’t heard much about recently is the Nightwing movie. You’d be forgiven if you thought that project had faded away, but according to director Chris McKay, that’s not the case. In response to a recent tweet from a fan asking if the movie was dead, McKay said…

So, while the Nightwing movie isn’t dead, fans shouldn’t be expecting much to happen with it anytime soon. Chris McKay doesn’t go into any further detail about why we’re going to have to wait. It could be that the movie just isn’t ready yet, that the script still needs work before things can really go anywhere. It could also just be the fact that Warner Bros. doesn’t plan for Nightwing to go into production for a while and so there’s no reason for anything about it to move forward.

At this point, the DC Universe is set through the summer of 2020, with Aquaman, Shazam!, Birds of Prey, and Wonder Woman 1984 each set for release over the next couple of years. There’s also that Joker movie coming next year. If we’re counting that one, it’s not part of the same DC universe.

After that, things get a little more cloudy. Matt Reeves has continued working on a Batman movie, that may or may not star Ben Affleck. If that film comes next, in say 2021, and it would make a certain amount of sense for a Nightwing movie to follow a Batman movie, then Nightwing could be three years away or more. If that’s the case, there’s really no reason for the hype train to start now.

And there’s no guarantee that Nightwing will even happen that quickly. There’s also a Flash solo movie that’s supposed to happen, a sequel to Suicide Squad, and somewhere between two and 200 other projects with Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn in development, I’ve lost count. Oh, and Supergirl, I almost forgot that one.

Still, it’s great news that the Nightwing movie is still active, even if it’s not going to be on the front burner for a while. He’s a popular character and it’s clear that a lot of people would like to see this movie. The response on Twitter to the movie’s non-death is quite strong.

So, while we may not have much news to report on the Nightwing movie here for a while, keep your eyes peeled because at some point down the road that will change. Once we know what’s up with Nightwing, we’ll have all the info here on CinemaBlend.

Will And Grace Cast An NCIS Franchise Vet As A Problematic Love Interest

The good news for Will & Grace‘s Will Truman is that he is getting a new love interest. The bad news for Will is that he may not be a long-term one. That is because the sitcom has cast NCIS: Los Angeles star as a problematic potential boyfriend.

Will & Grace has cast Barrett Foa to play Will’s new love interest. He is currently slated to guest star in the second installment of the revival. Foa is an original cast member on CBS’ popular spinoff in the NCIS franchise. He has played Eric Beale since the show began. While that may be one telling detail as to how long Foa will stick around as Will’s potential boyfriend, we have another.

Apparently, Will finds his new relationship tested not too long after it begins. Barrett Foa’s Paul is a fellow teacher of Will’s, and as their romance is developing, it hits a roadblock. That is due to details that emerge regarding Paul’s home life, which put Will in an “ethical dilemma,” per TVLine. Will & Grace fans will have to wait to learn what precisely that dilemma entails. Foa will not make his debut until 2019.

In the meantime, there is no shortage of potential explanations that could clarify how Will’s romance might unfold. Maybe Paul can resolve whatever dilemma he is putting Will in, and the pair will be able to continue their relationship. Otherwise, it is hard to imagine the show revealing a relationship-ending spoiler so far in advance.

Will does have another love interest in the revival’s second season though. Magic Mike‘s Matt Bomer is going to star as Will’s other new love interest this season. Bomer’s character is a TV news anchor, who sparks with Will.

Could Will & Grace have a love triangle in its midst? We will have to wait and see. According to the report, Barrett Foa is set to guest star in an “episode,” as in singular. So, this may be a one-episode stint with no hope of moving forward.

Given that Barrett Foa is a series regular on NCIS: LA, there is reason to believe that is all it can be. Whether his episode and Matt Bomer’s will intersect is unclear. If Foa and Will McCormack’s Will spark enough popularity among fans, maybe his arc will expand.

Matt Bomer’s character description focused a lot on his personality and there was no definitive indication given that would explain any possible turbulence in that relationship with Will. Barrett Foa’s Paul is another story and an intriguing one. The mystery surrounding the ethical dilemma that threatens his and Will’s relationship is curious. Time will tell how it is resolved.

New episodes of Will & Grace air Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on NBC. The revival is among a phenomenal amount of new content airing this fall.

Liam Neeson’s Son Changes Last Name To Honor Late Natasha Richardson

On May 18th, 2009, a tragedy occurred. Natasha Richardson, a stage and screen actress who is likely best known and remembered for her role in The Parent Trap, died after a terrible skiing accident left her with a traumatic brain injury. She was 45. Richardson left behind her husband, actor Liam Neeson, and their two children, Micheál and Daniel, who were 13 and 12 — respectively — at the time of her untimely departure. It has been nearly 10 years since that horrific incident happened, and Micheál Neeson, now 23, wants to pay his respects to his belated mother. That’s why the son has changed his last name to Richardson, to honor and ultimately remember his dearly departed mother and to keep her loving spirit alive in her absence.

As it was confirmed earlier this week by Page Six, Micheál Neeson has officially changed his name to Micheál Richardson. The death of Natasha Richardson had a profound effect on the young man — as you can imagine — and when his mother passed away, Micheál found himself in a “dark” place. It is never easy for a child to lose their parent, especially when his parents are as famous and beloved as they are, and it caused the young man to admittedly make some bad decisions in his early life. But it sounds like Micheál Richardson is starting to enter a better place and move forward a bit.

Neither Micheál Richardson nor Liam Neeson has responded publicly to the name change. But one prominent member of the family has spoken out.

Micheál Richardson’s decision to change his last name might be seen by some people as disrespectful of his famous father, or perhaps a legal means by which the young man can escape the enormous fame found by his dad, Vanessa Redgrave. But Micheál’s grandmother, and the mother of the late Natasha Richardson, believes it is most definitely not a slap in the face for Neeson. Rather, it’s a meaningful way for Micheál to honor his mother.

Meanwhile, here’s how Micheál Richardson explained the fallout of his mother’s death, and how it caused the young man to make some bad choices. The quote comes from an interview Micheál Richardson — then Micheál Neeson — gave with The Sunday Times, talking about the aftermath of Natasha Richardson’s horrific death and how Micheál dealt with the news at such a young, impressionable age.

It’s nice to see that Micheál Richardson has found a way to honorably and meaningful remembering his late mother Natasha Richardson. And through her son, the loving spirit of Natasha Richardson will hopefully live on, years upon years after her untimely passing.

Rogue One’s Tony Gilroy Explains What He Fixed With Reshoots

Once Disney got the rights to the Star Wars franchise, the House of Mouse started releasing new and exciting projects in quick succession. In addition to the main franchise, Star Wars recently introduced standalone movies, starting with Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Rogue One made a ton of money when it hit theaters in 2016, although fans were nervous when reports of extensive reshoots began circulating.

Those reshoots were done largely by Tony Gilroy, who also co-wrote Rogue One. When speaking at a college event, Gilroy recently clarified what he focused on when helming the standalone film’s reshoots, saying:

While Tony Gilroy hasn’t spoken a ton about the process of shooting Rogue One‘s reshoots, this latest quote certainly clears things up. It seems that the motley crew of new characters weren’t clearly defined, so new footage was needed to ensure that the audience cares for Jyn Erso’s group of rebels. And considering how the movie ended, crafting the characters was very important.

Tony Gilroy’s comments come from his recent appearance at Montclair State University (via NorthJersey.com), and help illuminate the mysterious reshoots that plagued Rogue One: A Star Wars Story before its highly anticipated release. While the Star Wars franchise is known for its iconography and cultural impact, the movies should still be about the characters– preferably ones that are fully formed and fleshed out.

Rogue One was set in the time between the prequel trilogy and A New Hope, ultimately ending just moments before George Lucas’ iconic first film began. Fans of the franchise could see the writing on the wall, and know that the group was essentially on a suicide squad to get the plans for the original Death Star. That’s exactly how it goes down, with audiences left to watch in horror as each of the scrappy rebels fell.

Ultimately, Tony Gilroy’s Rogue One reshoots did just that, because the blockbuster took time to highlight each member of the ill-fated crew. While Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso and Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor are the clear leads, the rest of the crew get their moments to show both heart and humor. Because of this personal connection the new Star Wars characters, watching them die one by one is an emotional experience.

It’s currently unclear if/when Star Wars will continue its standalone films, given the box office failure of Solo: A Star Wars Story. The next installment in the galaxy far, far away is J.J. Abrams’ untitled Episode IX, which will arrive on December 20, 2019. In the meantime, check out our 2019 release list to plan your trips to the movies in the New Year.

Ben Affleck Is Shooting A Movie About Addiction After Getting Out Of Rehab

Ben Affleck just finished a well-publicized stint in rehab, and while many might not want to continue dealing with addiction issues in such a public way, it seems Ben Affleck is taking a different approach. The actor is back at work on a new film called Torrance in which he’ll play a former athlete who is attempting his own recovery from addiction while becoming a coach at the high school he used to attend.

Torrance will see Ben Affleck star as a former all-star basketball player who loses his career as well as his wife due to his addiction. In an attempt to get his life back he looks for redemption as the coach of the high school basketball team.

Ben Affleck is producing the film as well as starring in it. This was an active project before Ben Affleck checked himself into rehab but it shows just how close art is imitating life when it comes to the actor. Ben Affleck’s addiction struggles haven’t been hidden previously, which may have been what drew him to Torrance in the first place.

Ben Affleck certainly has a unique perspective on being somebody in the public eye who has been dealing with addiction, so there may be no actor better suited to bring that to the screen. While we’ve seen this sort of story done before, this one could be different as the lead actor has a real, if unfortunate, understanding of the material.

While most of the buzz around Ben Affleck’s film career may be about exactly what his future is as Batman, because nobody quite knows what’s going on there, Torrance, as described by TMZ, sounds much more like the type of film that Ben Affleck likes to make. While he’s no stranger to action, he’s much more frequently part of dramatic films about more real people. When he is part of those sorts of films he’s frequently also talked about in the race for awards and a movie like this certainly could be part of that conversation.

Torrance is a reuniting of Ben Affleck with director Gavin O’Connor who also helmed Affleck’s hit The Accountant. A sequel to that movie is also reportedly moving forward, which could make for yet another film by the two. O’Connor himself has had an on again, off again, relationship with DC’s film universe. He was previously on board to write and direct the sequel to Suicide Squad but he recently left that project. James Gunn has been announced as the new screenwriter, with a possibility he may direct as well.

Torrance is still early in production and hasn’t been given a release date yet, though certainly, we won’t see it before sometime next year at the earliest.

Meghan Markle’s Fiji Hairstyle Had a Super Sweet Nod to Prince Harry

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are barely halfway through their first royal tour together, but in that time, the Duchess of Sussex has already announced a pregnancy, sold out a dozen outfits, and given an impassioned speech on the importance of women’s education. And on Wednesday, she gifted the hair-obsessed among us with yet another moment to feast our eyes on: another new-for-her hairstyle since her wedding.

While touring the University of the South Pacific in Fiji, Harry and Meghan both dressed in their island best: he in a blue tropical print shirt and she in a floral wrap dress tied with a pom-pom at her waist. But for royal beauty watchers, the pièce de résistance was Meghan’s hair. The duchess wore a French twist, the chic, polished cousin to her trademark messy bun. Instead of securing the gathered hair at the nape of the neck, though, the French twist tucks the hair under itself to create a sleek, smooth silhouette on the back of the head, rather than a bouncy bun.

The twist is a first (in royal life, at least) for Meghan, but it wasn’t enough to simply surprise us with a new hairstyle. She also honored the local style with three beautiful white flowers tucked neatly into her twist. According to People, they’re Frangipani flowers, native to Fiji and often used as wedding flowers to symbolize the eternal bond between a married couple.

Behold the look from every angle:

The look is a clever combination of local culture and symbolism. It’s also a reminder that the duchess’ take on royal style is just getting started. Meghan may already have a signature hairstyle, but she clearly still has the capability to surprise her fans—and there’s still plenty of time left on the couple’s royal tour for more new styles (not to mention, months of pregnancy looks ahead).
