SEASON 9

The Couple: Desiree Hartsock and Chris Siegfried

Their Story: Hartsock accepted Siegfried’s proposal in the finale.

Their Fate: TOGETHER. They married in January 2015, but (shockingly) not on ABC. Chris Harrison assured fans that this was “not a sign of disrespect for Des and Chris.”

*This Is Us* Producers Answer All Your Questions About Kate and Toby’s Baby

Warning: This Is Us spoilers ahead.

For weeks, the cast and producers of This Is Us have been teasing tonight’s episode as a game-changer, and now we know why. After a season of anticipation, Kate finally gave birth to her son, who she (unsurprisingly) named Jack. The wait is over!

Actually, waiting was pretty much the theme of this entire episode. Appropriately titled “The Waiting Room,” most of the 41 minutes was spent watching Rebecca, Miguel, Beth, Randall, Kevin, Zoe, and even Madison waiting in the hospital as Kate goes into premature labor. The waiting room was basically a character in itself—which makes sense, given the episode was written in an actual hospital waiting room. “Bekah Brunstetter [the writer] wanted to get all those weird little details that came across in the script by actually putting herself in the real situation,” This Is Us executive producer and co-showrunner Isaac Aptaker says.

But much of the episode doesn’t involve Kate as much as it centers on each character’s own crossroads in life. Rebecca and Miguel contemplate moving cross-country to be closer to Kate and the baby. Beth fears giving up her new teaching job to suit her family’s needs. Kevin continues drinking…and lying to Zoe about it.

Ultimately, Kate and Toby’s son is born 10-12 weeks premature. While he—and the rest of the family—prepare for a tough fight ahead, executive producers/co-showrunners Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger fill us in on what’s to come, and how tonight’s episode came to be.

Glamour: Kate and Toby’s baby looks extremely lifelike, but it’s very difficult to film with a baby so tiny. How did you manage those scenes?

Isaac Aptaker: We brought in a very talented team of artists that create incredibly lifelike, accurate-to-size premature babies that are operated by a variety of animatronic and puppeteering devices. It’s great for our actors, because it’s not done afterward on computers. They’re able to look at this baby, which really looks like a baby, and emote off it.

The baby was born at 28 weeks. What can you say about any physical or developmental delays?

IA: We don’t want to give anything away, but when we’re telling a story like this we are aware of how sensitive it is and how triggering it can be. We know many people have dealt with experiences like this, so we’re trying to be realistic and sensitive to that. Nothing is going to be drawn out just for TV’s sake. There’s going to be lots of answers coming very, very quickly, and we’re just trying to respectfully and accurately tell something that isn’t seen enough on TV, in our opinion, because of how many people it affects.

What kind of team did you bring in to make sure you were accurately telling this story?

IA: My girlfriend’s aunt runs a NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) in Pennsylvania and has a ton of information to offer on this. She got on the phone with us for hours and answered all of our questions. Then, on the day we filmed those scenes, we had medical technicians and consultants. We also wanted to hear the personal stories, so we brought in a couple of moms we knew personally who gave birth prematurely to hear what it was like, emotionally and anecdotally for them.

Kate and Toby name the baby Jack. Will we see Rebecca’s reaction?

IA: We actually don’t see the immediate reaction because of how the timing works in next week’s episode, but I think we can assume that Kate checked in with Rebecca before she made it official, and Rebecca feels really good about it.

Hannah Brown on Becoming The Bachelorette: I Want My Life to Be Exciting, Whether a Man Is in It or Not

Before going on The Bachelor, Hannah Brown had her life planned out: get her degree, marry, have kids, live in Alabama. Now, as the newly-appointed Bachelorette, Brown knows that’s not what she wants. “I want my life to be [exciting] regardless of whether a man is in it or not,” she tells Glamour. “I want to see more of the world and, through that, find out more about myself.” So before this new journey begins, Brown sat down with us to explain why you’ll see a different side of her when The Bachelorette premieres this May. Read on.

I wanted to be a trophy wife, and I was fine with that. I thought I had my life written out—what it was going to be, what kind of woman I was going to be—and none of it happened. I dated this guy forever, and I thought we were going to get married. We looked at land where we lived, and he was going to take over his dad’s business and get his engineering degree. I was going to get my degree and ultimately have babies. And there is nothing wrong with that. I was going be the queen of Tuscaloosa, and it was OK. There was always something in my heart that knew I wanted more, but I settled because that’s kind of what he wanted—and what everybody did back home.

When we broke up, it was shattering for me because I loved him, and it’s what I thought I wanted. Then I won Miss Alabama, which was another dream. It pushed me to start figuring out myself a little bit. Then The Bachelor happened. I was nominated for it, because I had never otherwise put The Bachelor on my list. I was skeptical and kind of terrified, but when Colton was announced I saw potential. On the show, you have to talk about what you want, where you see yourself, who with, and what you want in a person. I don’t think I ever asked myself those questions before. And then all the travel and seeing the world—it just opened myself up to realizing that I don’t want to go back to the life I had before. That is not me, and never was me. I was settling.

It’s not that it isn’t for other people, but it just wasn’t going to be enough for me. I realized I deserve to be happy and have all the things I want in life. It might be scary and outside the norm of what everybody else does, but I need to just go for it. Ultimately, my future wasn’t with Colton, but my journey isn’t over. I’m so excited for the rest of my life, and I want love to be an adventure. I want it to be fun. I want it to be exciting, and I want my life to be that way regardless of whether a man is in it or not. Alabama will always be home and have a special place in my heart, but I want my life to be more than just living there. I want to see more of the world and, through that, find out more about myself.

In a way, the hardest part of this journey has been the time since I’ve been off show. I haven’t been able to really do much. I’ve worked a little bit for some of my friends that do home decor stuff, but I’ve just had to hang out, which has not been fulfilling at all. I’m kind of living in the past, and I’m ready to move on. The in-between stage is the toughest.

Lady Gaga Just Hit Back at Pregnancy Rumors With an Even Bigger Announcement

The Lady Gaga-Bradley Cooper rumors just won’t die, and this latest one really takes the cake. A tabloid published a report this week claiming the Joanne singer is pregnant but doesn’t know if her A Star Is Born co-star or her ex-fiancé, Christian Carino, is the father. Of course, this isn’t true—but just in case you’re skeptical, Gaga took to Twitter to shut it down. And she dropped an even bigger surprise in its place.

“Rumors I’m pregnant? Yeah, I’m pregnant with #LG6,” Gaga tweeted Tuesday night, March 12. That’s right, people: Lady Gaga isn’t pregnant, but she does officially have an album on the way.

Here’s the thing: Gaga has said in the past she’s working on a new record, but her dubbing it #LG6 on Twitter suggests it’s nearing completion and a release. Fans have been waiting for this moment for a while now, and the reactions online prove it.

Below, check out Gaga’s tweet:

And her fan reactions:

We don’t have an album release date right now, but fans can expect it to drop this year—maybe even in a matter of months. Awards season is over, and Gaga has a long stretch of time before her next Enigma Vegas show on May 30. It seems like the perfect opportunity to tackle a big project…like her sixth studio album.

It’s hard to venture where Gaga will go music-wise. After all, the acoustic-inspired Joanne from 2016 came out of left field. But the neon-tinged vibe of her Enigma show, not to mention her glam-pop rendition of “Shallow” at the Grammys, suggest she’ll return to her electronic roots. Over the summer, the cutting-edge DJ Sophie revealed she worked with Gaga on new music, which adds fuel to this fire too. As a Gaga diehard, I’m fully on board with this. No one makes pop music like Lady Gaga, and the world could use some “Just Dance” magic right about now.

8 Workout Moves for a Stronger Body in Two Weeks

We’ve all seen one too many workout plans that promise to totally change your body with only a few 10-minute gym sessions. We’ve also all been annoyed and disappointed when we inevitably don’t have arms like Serena Williams’ after a couple weeks. Here’s the deal: getting stronger is a complex equation that involves fueling your body with healthy foods, making lifestyle changes (hello, self-care) and putting in the sweat to build muscle and endurance.

No workout is going to turn you into the G.O.A.T. in two weeks, but with the right moves, you can feel noticeably stronger, says Pete McCall, trainer and exercise physiologist with the American Council on Exercise. What makes that possible: focusing on muscles that respond fastest to strength training—those in your arms, shoulders, calves and lower abs. Do two sets of these eight moves (circuit-style) four days a week and you’ll be well on your way to feeling like more of a powerhouse.

Target’s 14 Days of Deals Sale – The Best Beauty Bargains to Shop

Raise your hand if you’ve ever felt personally victimized by Target. It’s basically impossible to leave the store without Christmas lights, new throw pillows, a matching PJ set, and half the beauty aisle in your cart, even if you just popped in for toothpaste. It’s hard to resist the store’s charms, especially considering its beauty selection just keeps getting better and better. It’s home to both drugstore standbys like Maybelline and tough-to-find Korean and indie brands.

Now, the retailer is making it even harder to leave empty handed. Target just announced its throwing a 14 Days of Deals sale. The two weeks of massive beauty deals run from now until March 23. Each day kicks off a new discount both in stores and online, ranging from 40 percent off foundation to $5 off a best-selling exfoliator. Below, we break down the best deals to shop from the sale. It’s an exercise in self-restraint if we’ve ever seen one.

All the Details on Jennifer Lopez’s Engagement Ring From Alex Rodriguez

Over the weekend, Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez announced their engagement. The couple, who have been together for more than two years, shared the happy news on Instagram, via two coordinated posts of a ginormous diamond engagement ring. “She said yes,” Rodriguez captioned the announcement photo of Lopez wearing her shiny new emerald-cut stone.

Not only is the rock stunning, but it’s massive. (Though, to be honest, we didn’t expect anything less with these two.) Lopez’s diamond is an emerald cut—the same stone shape seen on the engagement rings of celebrities like Amal Clooney, Beyoncé, and Anne Hathaway. The Art Deco style has been cropping up again in recent years, both among the A-list crowd and regular-old shoppers.

A.Rod popped the question during a couple’s getaway in the Bahamas, shortly after the pair celebrated their two-year anniversary.

According to Page Six, Rodriguez apparently spent seven months looking for the right ring. “He knew for a long time that he wanted to propose to Jennifer,” a source said. “He wanted to get it right. The proposal has been a long time coming, Alex knew she was the one and has been painstakingly planning everything.” He reportedly sourced the stone outside the U.S.

Neither A.Rod nor J.Lo have revealed the jeweler who created the ring. Speculation as to its value and its weight has been non-stop since Saturday night, with some experts estimating it could be worth anywhere between $1 million to upwards of $5 million.

Speaking to another anonymous source, People reports that the proposal was “very much a surprise to Jennifer,” which was “just how Alex wanted it.”

“Jennifer is ecstatic and so are their families and friends,” the source said. You know who else was “ecstatic”? Most of Twitter.

Even A.Rod got in on the fun.

Congrats again to the lovebirds!

What’s Going on With Miley Cyrus’ Instagram? An Investigation

Miley Cyrus has been especially extra on Instagram these past few days for the best reason. The “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart” singer is on a meme-posting spree in honor of International Women’s Day, which was technically last Friday, March 8. That hasn’t stopped her from tributing her favorite women in the following days, though. What did you expect? She can’t be tamed!

If you thought Miley Cyrus would celebrate this important holiday by just posting some cute pics and captions then, well, you don’t know Miley Cyrus. She kicked off Valentine’s Day by sending her husband, Liam Hemsworth, an NSFW meme. Hell, she kicked off 2014 by sliding down a giant blow-up of her tongue. Of course her International Women’s Day tributes are delightfully bizarre.

Let’s start with her shout-out to Nicki Minaj, which includes a GIF of the two at the 2015 Grammys and the hashtags “#Top” and “#TopEnergy.” It’s 2019, so I’ll just let you make of that what you will.

She then asked her 87.3 million followers if they wanted to “top like Taylor” or “twerk like Miley.” I don’t know what’s going on here, but I suddenly think Cyrus should run in the 2020 presidential race.

Cyrus extended International Women’s Day into Monday (March 11) with this throwback video of herself and Rihanna singing at a Stand Up to Cancer event. Remember this time? When Cyrus sang “7 Things” and Rihanna sang…anything? Seriously, RiRi, where’s #R9?

Speaking of “7 Things”—an anthem for the ages—Cyrus then posted a throwback video of her singing it to Selena Gomez. “Your generation = 7 Rings MY generation = 7 Things,” she captioned it. (“7 Things ” came out 11 years ago, by the way. Let that sink in.)

Here’s where Cyrus’ IG activity gets confusing. She’s keeping up her weird theme, but there’s no reason behind the posts. Here, she’s asking Ariana Grande to do a cover of this ringtone (?) called “Miley Slays.” Is this a preview of the new album? “Miley Slays” could be the bop we’ve been waiting for.

She followed this up with a Teletubbies video where she complains about sweating. I’m just as mystified as you are.

As is Nick Jonas. He DMed Cyrus to compliment her on her string of throwback posts. If I could DM her, I’d be like, “Love all the #IWD tributes, but also what the hell is happening?”

Meanwhile, her Twitter is popping with even more throwback goodness:

Gomez and Demi Lovato are both into it:

Cyrus is also showing more love for “7 Rings.” She really loves that song, huh?

So what’s the consensus? What is going on with Miley Cyrus’ Instagram? It’s an International Women’s Day/nostalgia bonanza wrapped in Teletubbies, random ringtones, and head-scratching Taylor Swift GIFs. Miley really is just being Miley, I guess. That’s probably the only explanation we’ll get about her aesthetic. Let’s embrace it.

Abby Wambach on How She’s Supporting the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team in Their Fight Against Gender Discrimination

On March 8—International Women’s Day, no less—28 members of the world champion United States women’s soccer team filed a gender discrimination suit against U.S. Soccer. “Each of us is extremely proud to wear the United States jersey, and we also take seriously the responsibility that comes with that,” team member Alex Morgan told the Associated Press. “We believe that fighting for gender equality in sports is a part of that responsibility. As players, we deserved to be paid equally for our work, regardless of our gender.”

The U.S. women’s soccer team first began their fight for equal compensation in 2016, when five players filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) asking to be paid as much as the players on the men’s team. But the EEOC has still not issued a decision in their case. Then in 2017, they negotiated a new collective bargaining agreement—which increased their salaries and practice conditions—with U.S. Soccer that will run through 2021. And so the new gender discrimination suit is a further step—one that former soccer player, coach, and two-time Olympic gold medalist Abby Wambach cheers.

Since she retired from the sport in 2015, Wambach has dedicated herself to ending sex discrimination. At Barnard College’s graduation in 2018, Wambach turned her commencement address into a call to action. She told the graduating class, “Like all little girls, I was taught to be grateful. I was taught to keep my head down, stay on the path, and get my job done. I was freaking Little Red Riding Hood. The message is clear: Don’t be curious, don’t make trouble, don’t say too much, or bad things will happen. I stayed on the path out of fear—not of being eaten by a wolf—but of being cut, being benched, losing my paycheck. If I could go back and tell my younger self one thing, it would be this: ‘Abby, you were never Little Red Riding Hood, you were always the wolf.’” The speech has been viewed over 180,000 times and inspired her upcoming book, WOLFPACK, a guide for women to unlock their own power.

Watch Wambach deliver her viral address at Barnard College’s 2018 commencement

As the highest all-time goal scorer for the national team—and the world record holder for international goals for both female and male soccer players with a whopping 184 goals—Wambach is one of the most recognizable face in women’s soccer. But for much of her career, Wambach explains she felt so fortunate to be able to compete in the game she loved that she never fought to be appropriately compensated for shattering those records. It’s a choice she now deeply regrets. Wambach could see just how badly the women’s team had been treated—and decided her decades of silence and servitude to the sport were over.

Wambach now travels the country as a crusader for equal pay across all industries, telling women that feeling “grateful” for their work should never stop them from demanding what they’re entitled to. Here, she opens up to Glamour about the U.S. women’s soccer team’s revolutionary discrimination suit—and how she champions the team from the sidelines.

Glamour: In your viral Barnard speech, you describe this moment when you appeared at the ESPY Awards, side by side with Peyton Manning and Kobe Bryant—and it dawned on you that they had so much more financial security going into retirement than you. What was it like to have that realization, then go back to your hotel room?

Abby Wambach: I played professional sports, so I lived a very privileged life where I was traveling the world representing my country. At the time, I thought this was better than most women’s experience, because I was really successful. But then I got back to the hotel and I started to understand what had really gone on here, and it was this anger-provoking moment that made me realize that even though I felt that I was one of the women who got a seat at the table, next to Kobe and Peyton, I was walking into a very different retirement. For me, that was the minute I figured out what I was going to do for the rest of my life: I was going to focus that energy and that rage, which turned into my Barnard speech, and now this book. It’s a sobering moment for women when we’re made very aware of where we stand in the order of things. But I don’t like to just sit into despair, I’m about action—so this is my attempt to help change the realities of women everywhere.

Jennifer Lopez Just Shared New Pictures of Alex Rodriguez’s Beach Proposal

Jennifer Lopez and her number one fan, her fiancé Alex Rodriguez, have been engaged for all of four days, but that’s already way too long to go without exact proposal details. Luckily, J.Lo just blessed us all by sharing some ultra-intimate photos of the exact moment A.Rod got down on one knee during their beach vacation in the Bahamas. Spoiler alert: The whole thing was beautiful.

On Instagram, Lopez posted a couple of of images that capture her emotional reaction as Rodriguez presented her with a gigantic emerald-cut diamond ring. She didn’t say much else—the post’s caption reads, “3.9.19”—but the gorgeous photos pretty much speak for themselves.

Take a look:

The engagement comes after the couple had been dating a little more than two years. They broke the news that they were getting hitched on Saturday by posting identical photos of J.Lo sporting her new massive rock, which her fiancé reportedly picked out himself. He shared the image with a caption that read, “She said yes.”

Earlier today, March 12, Rodriguez offered his own lovey-dovey message to fans on his IG stories. Over a shot of the two of them hugging after the proposal, he wrote, “There aren’t many words to share with you, only feelings. Gratitude. Excitement. And just…joy. We know there is work to do to keep building a family and future we can be proud of, and we can’t do it without all of you. We are thankful for all of your messages of love and congratulations.”

In the days before Rodriguez popped the question, he and Lopez shared a few photos of themselves lounging on boats and on the sand during their breezy Bahamas getaway. Somewhere in that time, it seems Rodriguez found the perfect spot on the beach to make Lopez his fiancé, and the moment couldn’t have been anymore adorable.
