Zendaya is an actor, a singer, and, of course, Meechee—but she’s adding yet another hat to her collection: designer.
Zendaya was announced as Tommy Hilfiger‘s newest global women’s ambassador, a role previously held by Gigi Hadid. As part of the gig, she’ll work alongside the American designer on a capsule collection (much like the supermodel did) due out in Spring 2019.
“I love to collaborate with people who are passionate about making their dreams a reality and who inspire the next generation to do the same,” Hilfiger said in a press release. “Zendaya has become a global icon, using fashion to make bold statements while always staying true to herself. Our capsule collection will fuse her eclectic style with the Americana spirit of our brand.”
“Fashion is more than just wearing cool clothes,” Zendaya said in the release. “It’s a way to celebrate self-expression and individuality, which is extremely empowering. This is why I am proud to partner with Tommy Hilfiger.” She celebrated the new gig by sharing a photo of herself with Hilfiger and her longtime stylist, Law Roach.
Though neither gave any hints about what the collection will include, the brand’s Instagram posts announce the partnership have a distinctly ’60s vibe, with references to several zodiac signs. Hilfiger told WWD that you can expect it to be primarily the product of Zendaya’s own brain and sense of style: “In our collaborations, we’ve found that we take as much information, inspiration and direction from the collaborators as possible. We really want to infuse the collection with their ideas. They are really the target consumer. And one of the reasons we’ve chosen the girls that we’ve chosen is they have very specific ideas about what the looks should be. And it really helps us evolve our brand.”
Tommy x Zendaya is expected to launch in February as a “see-now-buy-now” spring line. Though the brand announced only one season’s collaboration as part of the global women’s ambassador role, both parties will reportedly have the option to continue working together for more collections, per WWD. Zendaya will also appear in Tommy Hilfiger’s global marketing campaigns, beginning next spring.
This isn’t the first time Zendaya tries her hand at designing: She previously had a clothing line called Daya by Zendaya, which she created with Roach.
There are several scenes in episode two of Netflix’s new series The Haunting of Hill House that made me distinctly think, “Yup, I’m watching This Is Us with ghosts.” The first is a flashback when Shirley, the second oldest of the Crain children, is mourning the loss of her pet kitten and becomes horrified when a bug crawls out of its mouth. That’s scarring enough for any preteen, but then cut to a few days later when all of her other pet kittens die. Shirley freaks out—as any of us would—and her parents, Hugh and Olivia, have an argument. Olivia berates Hugh for giving Shirley the cats because she’ll now have a warped perception of death for life. Fast-forward some 20 years later, and what do you know? Shirley owns a mortuary with her husband.
To be clear, I’m not suggesting there’s something wrong with morticians, but this sequence of events is just so on the nose. Singular Childhood Incident Directly Impacts Adult in the Most Obvious Way: That’s straight out of the This Is Us playbook—just with, ya know, maybe-possessed cats.
For those who don’t know about The Haunting of Hill House, let me back up. It’s a 10-episode horror series from Netflix based on the popular 1959 novel by Shirley Jackson. The show takes a lot of creative liberties, though. It’s set in present-day, and now based on the Crain family, which is comprised of mom Olivia, dad Hugh, and kids Steve, Shirley, Theodora, Luke, and Nell. Olivia and Hugh are house flippers who’ve decided to take on a mammoth, creaky mansion as their next project. The only problem, however, is that it’s haunted as fuck—like so, so haunted. There are ghosts all over this joint and even a red door in the upstairs they can’t open. A specter named the Bent-Neck Lady lurks around the kids’ rooms like Kim Kardashian in this GIF:
All the creepiness comes to a head one night when Hugh rushes the children out of the house and leaves Olivia behind. And then Olivia dies under mysterious circumstances. Twenty-plus years later, we see these kids as estranged adults who are still extremely traumatized—from the house, their mother’s death, and other reasons.
Saying anything more will give away key spoilers, so you’ll just have to watch if you’re now intrigued. From that synopsis alone, though, you can see the This Is Us parallels clearer than Haley Joel Osment saw dead people in The Sixth Sense. Melodramatic siblings! Flashbacks! A central mystery! The list goes on and on, so let me break down the key ways The Haunting of Hill House could easily be called This Is Us But Spooky:
1. The dynamic between the five siblings. The child Crain siblings are fairly happy go-lucky in their mansion despite all the ghosts, but as adults, not so much. Shirley and Theodora are tight, but Shirley is on the outs with Steve. Steve is on the outs with Luke. Nell just wants everyone to get along. You get the idea! There’s a lot of latent sibling tension that rings very close to the time Kevin called out Randall for being the favorite on This Is Us. The amount of drama between the Crains makes the problems on This Is Us seem like cake. At least Kate doesn’t have to worry about spirits from the beyond.
2. All those flashbacks. The Haunting of Hill House thrives on the art of flashback, much like This Is Us does. We’ll start with a scene from the past, and then see how those events have affected the family in present times. It’s eerily similar to the narratives on This Is Us. Just swap Mandy Moore’s grandma wig for paranormal activity. (The wig is still scarier.)
3. What happened to Olivia? The Crain matriarch passes away mysteriously after the rest of the family leaves the house. The official report is that she died by suicide, but Hugh is convinced Hill House played a role in her death. After the first episode, you watch the series knowing Olivia is dead, but flashbacks help tell her story—much like Jack’s on This Is Us—and her demise is a central question on the show. (Stay tuned to see if a Crock Pot is involved.)
4. Thirst trap family members. On This Is Us, Justin Hartley is always walking around with his shirt off, and Randall exercises 5,000 times a day. Meanwhile, Michiel Huisman (who plays adult Steve on Hill House) has smolder for days that’s only enhanced by his hipster glasses. An atmospheric thirst trap!
5. The crying. Nell spends the entire first episode crying. Shirley spends a large chunk of the second episode crying, as does Luke. Hot Steve cries, too. I’m not judging them, of course—they’re dealing with literal ghosts—but the sheer amount of tears shed in just two episodes absolutely puts Hill House in This Is Us territory. Have tissues on hand when you watch—to cover your eyes when things get terrifying.
The Haunting of Hill House is now streaming on Netflix.
When you think of black lipstick, an old halloween costume might come to mind, or maybe that goth phase you went through in middle school. But when I think of black lipstick, I think of Rihanna.
The specific image of RiRi that specifically comes to mind is one that showed up on my Instagram feed uninvited (which is my way of making a joke since that’s the name of the black Fenty lipstick shade she was wearing.) She looked cool, modern, and not particularly witchy, and it got me thinking about how I’d look in black lipstick.
To make the case for black lipstick as a potential everyday look, I asked a few editors at the Glamour office to try out different brands, shades, formulas, and price points to see what they thought. Turns out, wearing a black lip doesn’t mean you’ll get unsolicited directions to the nearest Hot Topic.
See below for the best black lipsticks and how to realistically incorporate them into your routine on days that aren’t October 31.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced on Monday (October 15) that they’re expecting their first child, and the Internet’s been in a tizzy ever since. The timing of the announcement came right as Markle and Prince Harry arrived in Australia for their first royal tour.
“It’s great to be back in Australia, and especially even more so, this is my wife’s first trip here, so I’m very excited to show her this incredible country of yours,” Prince Harry said at an event in Sydney this week honoring both him and Markle, according to Entertainment Tonight. “We’re both absolutely delighted to be here and to see you serving beer and tea at an afternoon reception in true Aussie style.”
It wasn’t long before Prince Harry addressed the elephant in the room. “We also, genuinely, couldn’t think of a better place to announce, uh, the upcoming baby, be it a boy or girl, so thank you very much,” he said. And while Markle didn’t officially address the guests, the Daily Mail reports that she was overheard talking to Australian TV personality Eddie Woo, who told her about his own kids. “We’re ready! We’re excited to join the club,” Markle reportedly replied.
“Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019,” Kensington Palace posted to both Twitter and Instagram on Monday morning. “Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public.”
Markle is reportedly around 12 weeks pregnant, which means there’s still some time before she does become a member of that club.
Some might say President Donald Trump has a way with words when it comes to women. Lowlife. Dog. Pocahontas. Crooked. Disgusting pig. Low IQ.
Those are just a few of the names Trump has lobbed at women—usually those who stand up to him or call him out publicly. And now we can add “horseface” to that list.
In a tweet Tuesday, Trump used the term to describe Stormy Daniels, the adult film star who alleges she had a sexual relationship with the president and was paid $130,000 to keep quiet about it. “‘Federal Judge throws out Stormy Danials lawsuit versus Trump. Trump is entitled to full legal fees.’ @FoxNews,” he wrote. “Great, now I can go after Horseface and her 3rd rate lawyer in the Great State of Texas. She will confirm the letter she signed! She knows nothing about me, a total con!”
On Monday, a federal judge dismissed a defamation suit filed by Daniels, ruling that Trump did not defame her on Twitter last spring. She was also ordered to pay his legal fees, according to the New York Times.
The tweet at the center of the lawsuit was posted in April, just one day after Daniels released a sketch of a man she says threatened her in 2011 to keep her quiet about the Trump affair.
Sadly, this latest insult to Daniels is just another example of Trump digging into his go-to bag of tricks, especially when it comes to women. He tends to reserve his most aggressive insults for women who oppose him and often goes after their appearance—from Rosie O’Donnell and Maxine Waters to Hillary Clinton, Elizabeth Warren, and Omarosa Manigault. It’s deeply upsetting to see any woman treated this way by a man, let alone the leader of the free world. But here we are in 2018.
Daniels quickly responded on her own Twitter account: “Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present your president. In addition to his…umm…shortcomings, he has demonstrated his incompetence, hatred of women and lack of self control on Twitter AGAIN! And perhaps a penchant for bestiality. Game on, Tiny.”
As did her attorney, Michael Avenatti, who wrote, “You are a disgusting misogynist and an embarrassment to the United States. Bring everything you have, because we are going to demonstrate to the world what a complete shyster and liar you are. How many other women did you cheat on your wife with while you had a baby at home?”
“.@realDonaldTrump – tens of millions of Americans are tired of your fraud, lies, and corruption,” Avenatti continued. “They are equally tired of your attacks on women, especially the ones who you have had sex with while cheating on your wives. We (and the UN) are laughing AT YOU, not with you. #Basta”
Of course, the larger social media outrage was also immediate. But as many pointed out, there are often no real negative repercussions for this type of behavior from Trump, outside of angering a segment of the population.
What happens when you put Kendall Jenner, Hailey Baldwin, and a lie detector test together in a car? A whole lot of hilarious honesty. In a new trailer for an upcoming episode of Carpool Karaoke: The Series, the models alternate between the normal road-trip activity of singing along to their favorite songs and the decidedly not-so-normal activity of doing a lie detector test. Awkward for them, sure, but amazing for the rest of us.
The clip starts with Jenner asking Baldwin if she likes her hair up in a high ponytail, which she says she does (luckily, it turns out to be the truth). From there, though, things get juicier. Baldwin kicks it up a notch by asking her friend, “Have you ever created a fake Instagram to look at what your ex-boyfriend is doing?” Jenner starts laughing and reveals, “You know the answer to this! Yes!” Would 10/10 do the same.
The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star fires back with her own hard-hitting question, asking Baldwin about what her famous fiancé really thinks of her. “Does Justin think I’m cool?” Jenner asks. Baldwin pauses a few uncomfortable seconds before laughing and assuring her friend, “Of course!”
At that point, the lie detector reveals that Baldwin was, in fact, telling a lie. LOL.
Though Bieber may not necessarily think Jenner is “cool” (at least according to the lie detector test), the model is still deeply supportive of the engagement between her two friends. When Jimmy Fallon asked Jenner if she was happy about the news on a recent episode of The Tonight Show, she replied, “Yeah, whatever makes them happy, I’m happy. I’ve been friends with both of them for a very long time. So everybody’s happy, and that makes me happy.”
Pippa Middleton and James Matthews are officially parents. The happy couple welcomed their first child, a boy, on Monday afternoon (October 15), People reports, at around 1:58 P.M. London time. The baby boy weighed 8 lbs., 9 oz., and Middleton’s rep told the outlet, “Everyone is delighted, and mother and baby are doing well.” Middleton reportedly gave birth at the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital in the Paddington neighborhood of London, the same place where her older sister, Kate Middleton, has welcomed Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis in recent years.
George, Charlotte, and Louis’s newest cousin arrived only hours after Kensington Palace confirmed that they’ll be meeting yet another cousin — from their Uncle Harry and Aunt Meghan Markle — some time in spring 2019.
Middleton and Matthews confirmed they were expecting in June, not long after they celebrated their first wedding anniversary on May 20. The big reveal came via Middleton’s regular fitness column for Waitrose Weekend, in an article she wrote about “exercising during pregnancy.” “When I learned the happy news that I was pregnant, I realized I needed to adjust my normal 4 to 5 day a week routine and find a way of continuing my exercise safely throughout the three trimesters,” she wrote. “I’ve noticed my body change and weight increase, but through effective exercise and sports I feel that it’s being strengthened to support a healthy pregnancy, birth, and recovery.”
Rumors that Middleton and Matthews were expecting a baby cropped up in April, overlapping just slightly with Kate’s own third pregnancy. However, Pippa waited several weeks after Prince Louis arrived, on April 23, to confirm her own pregnancy, and she was among the first to visit her sister and the newborn back home at the palace the very next day.
There’s a good chance that, like me, you’ve spent the last couple weeks (months? years?) searching high and low for soothing content as respite from an alarming, often draconian, news cycle. Cat videos, frenzied online shopping sprees, meditation apps… all well and good, but in my eyes, nothing beats Amy Poehler’s overalls on Making It as pure medicine for my tired soul.
Hosted by Poehler and Nick Offerman, the NBC show is, by far, the feel-good show of the year. It’s a crafting competition full of adorable pun-offs, sweet bits, and the kind of gentle encouragement most of us can only dream of ever receiving in a work environment—think The Great British Baking Show, but with woodworking instead of Victoria sponge cakes. It’s an absolute delight. In every episode, Amy appears in a pair of sturdy overalls; her version of a host uniform. And at this point, spotting her signature outfit is as comforting to me as catching a whiff of my favorite calming candle. As soon as I lay eyes on those strapping dungarees, I know that I’ve made it to the good place.
These overalls are a quiet constant in an increasingly inconsistent and discordant world—and every week, Amy delivers. They bring peace and harmony to my aching psyche and deserve to be celebrated as such. Having spent the majority of the mid-’80s and early 90’s frolicking in overalls of the OshKosh B’Gosh variety, seeing Amy in her own grown-up version of the ultimate play clothes tugs at my heartstrings in a way I never anticipated. These aren’t high-end silk “fashion” rompers we’re talking about—they’re utilitarian, comfy, and simple, just like the overalls my sister and I lived in during our blissed-out, sweet childhood.
Poehler’s overalls set the down-to-earth tone that underlies the entire series. Her casual, easy-going attire helps the contestants feel at ease and lets their handicrafts shine. As the host of a TV show on a major network—and a legitimate celebrity—Amy easily could have made every episode a dramatic fashion moment designed to make her look her glamorous best. But nope! She went the overalls route, and whether they’re maroon, blue denim, olive green, or black, they’re always practical, comfortable, and low-key (and almost always are paired with an equally chill button-down top.)
Much like exercising, listening to true crime podcasts, and petting my dog, Amy’s overalls are the balm for which my soul has been yearning. (And if you’re not caught up, wait until you see her formal overalls from the season finale.) Have you ever heard of anything so pure and good? And as if that weren’t enough, they’re also the best fall outfit inspiration for the cozy weeks and months ahead. While Amy’s overalls are of the hearty, utilitarian variety, there’s a whole host of styles available these days, for any type of shopper.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry attending their first stop on their official tour is fairly big news in and of itself—but it’s huge news when that event takes place just hours after the couple revealed they’re expecting a baby.
Yes, earlier today the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced that a royal baby is on the way. Later, they attended a welcome reception in Sydney, Australia at Admiralty House by the Governor General Peter Cosgrove and his wife, Lady Lynne Cosgrove. According to People, the Cosgroves also gave Meghan and Harry their first official baby present: a stuffed kangaroo with a baby joey in the pocket. “That’s so cute, it’s our first baby gift,” Meghan reportedly said.
Markle wore an outfit by Australian designer Karen Gee for the event, a sleek white look that’s aptly named the “Blessed” dress.
But enough details! I know you’re just here for the pictures. Take a look, below:
“Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019,” the palace stated on social media on Monday morning (October 15). “Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public.”
Meghan and Harry aren’t the only royal and royal-adjacent couple with baby news today. Rumor has it Kate Middleton’s sister, Pippa Middleton, has checked into the maternity wing to give birth. So many blessings—for the royal family and for those of us following along.
It was only last month that Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson were kicking it in their $16 million apartment surrounded by beanbags, baby pigs, and exactly zero forks. Now, however, both TMZ and People are reporting the couple has split after five months of dating—and four months of being engaged. Before you start listening to “Pete Davidson” on repeat in mourning, though, remember that Grande and Davidson haven’t confirmed this news yet; it’s possible they’re still together and just had a small argument about lollipops or something. Maybe Grande wanted Davidson to dye his hair back to brown and he said, “No, this platinum look is lit,” and that caused a brief tiff. We don’t know! All we know is breakup rumors are swirling.
But it’s a confusing timeline. Grande and Davidson were reportedly chummy as recent as Saturday (October 13), which makes this news all the more jarring. How did this couple go from gallivanting at furniture stores in fancy sweatpants to breaking up in such a short span? God is a woman, and she’s just as perplexed as we are. Here’s what we know so far:
September 29: Grande attends the premiere of Saturday Night Live. She was posting Instagram Stories backstage, according to Vanity Fair, and acting very much like she still dug Davidson and his penchant for the word “sick.”
October 9: Davidson covers up one of his Grande tattoos. Specifically, the “Dangerous Woman” bunny he had inked behind his ear. It seems he had a heart drawn over it instead, which is only a little bit ironic.
October 13: Grande is spotted backstage at Saturday Night Live again. Per The Daily Mail, they appeared so “in love.”
October 14: News breaks Grande and Davidson have split. Davidson deletes his Instagram, which isn’t all that surprising because he’s more hot-and-cold with that thing than I am with my gym membership. According to People, those close to Grande saw the split coming and deemed her relationship “too much too soon.” TMZ notes that the death of Grande’s ex-boyfriend Mac Miller might’ve been a “tipping point.” Us Weekly, however, contends the two just called their engagement off and are still working things out.
October 15: In a deflection attempt only theatre nerds and gay men will appreciate, Grande posts about her involvement in the Wicked 15th anniversary special—her first social media post since the breakup rumors kicked off.
And that’s it for now, people. Knowing Grande and Davidson, though, it’s only a matter of time before we receive another update—most likely in all lowercase letters.
