Kamala Harris—and her socks—are going viral.
In a new TikTok video made by Harris’s niece, Meena, we see the vice president-elect chuckling over some peach-flavored mints. The joke? Meena tells her aunt she got her some “im-peach-mints.” The pun, obviously, is a play on President Donald Trump’s second impeachment, which the U.S. House of Representatives voted for on Wednesday, January 13. (The case now goes to the Senate.)
Meena’s initial TikTok post has already received more than 10 million views—and that’s just on TikTok. She also shared the video to her Instagram and Twitter accounts, providing people with some much-needed laughs.
Some laughs, and maybe some style inspiration. In the video, Harris is wearing very cute blue and white socks that read, “The Future Is Female.” The unisex crew socks, made by Gumball Poodle, are available for purchase at Walmart for $13.99, as well as other retailers.
Kamala Harris is a huge supporter of equality, and her and President-elect Joe Biden’s victory is historic. Harris is a daughter of immigrants and will become the first female, Black, and South Asian-American vice president in the nation’s history. “But while I may be the first woman in this office, I will not be the last,” she said in a speech following the Biden-Harris victory. “Because every little girl watching tonight sees that this is a country of possibilities and to the children of our country regardless of your gender, our country has sent you a clear message: dream with ambition, lead with conviction and see yourselves in a way that others may not simply because they’ve never seen it before.”
In an essay for Glamour, Harris opened up about the obstacles she’s faced throughout her professional career. “Women across all fields hear the same doubts and questions about their qualifications and ability to lead,” she wrote. “Those are the comments that make us consider what we know and the questions that make us wonder whether there will be support for our ideas. But here’s the thing: I didn’t listen.” Read her piece in full here.
