Kristen Stewart Says She’d Want To Play A Gay Superhero

The once-not-enamored-with-being-famous Kristen Stewart says that she’d want to play a gay superhero. The actress, who recently made news for saying that she had been told that she might get a Marvel movie if she wasn’t so publicly open with her sexuality, has an idea of exactly the kind of character she would like to play if she ever did get a chance to play in that superhero realm.

Although Kristen Stewart was having some fun in the interview by joking around with this topic, she did outright say she’d want to play a gay superhero, and we have no reason to doubt she would. That’s not to say that she wouldn’t play a straight superhero, but as someone who has dated men and women and not wanted to feel forced to define her sexuality, one imagines she would welcome the opportunity to play a gay superhero.

Kristen Stewart’s comments came while discussing her previous comments about how she was told that hiding her sexuality might get her bigger roles. She said that she wasn’t really referencing Marvel specifically, just how her public perception, which could be seen as making waves, might hinder her chances for a role like in a big Marvel superhero movie. The actress views the environment as being much more accepting now, and she said she’s sure Marvel would love to hire gay actors as superheroes.

She’s certainly right on that front as Marvel’s push for diversity and representation in front of and behind the camera is kicking into overdrive in Phase 4. Eternals will feature Marvel’s first major openly gay character, although we don’t know who yet, and earlier reports said that Marvel was looking for an openly gay actor to star in the film. So if Kristen Stewart’s openness may have once prevented her from a big superhero role, it seems unlikely that would be the case now.

In the Variety interview, Anthony Mackie joked that his Seberg co-star could be the female version of his character on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, to which Kristen Stewart struck a superhero pose, but there are plenty of gay characters she could play. Phyla-Vell, Moondragon, Karolina Dean and a new Mystique once the X-Men are brought in are just a few of the possible options.

Despite the fact that she is still probably best known for Twilight, Kristen Stewart is a talented actress and whether she were to play a gay superhero, a straight one or a character who, like her, doesn’t fit neatly into one category, she would be a welcome addition to the MCU.
