ReelBlend #87: Director Todd Phillips Talks Making Joker

Joker continues to inspire a lot of conversation, and also generate serious box office. Todd Phillips’ dark, R-rated take on the clown prince of the DC universe banked more than $200 million at the global box office… and triggered 1,000,000 hot takes on social media.

The ReelBlend boys discuss the impact of Joker on this week’s episode, and then welcome Joker director Todd Phillips for an exclusive interview!

While discussing Joker’s box office, Kevin, Sean and Jake also weigh in on Robert Downey Jr.’s decision not to push for an Oscar campaign for his work on Avengers: Endgame. This leads to a spirited debate about the Best Actor category, and whether or not RDJ would even make the cut IF he threw his name into the ring.

Sean moved the episode along by sharing details about a set visit he embarked on for Zack Snyder’s new movie, Army of the Dead. No plot details. Those are under strict embargo. But some fun stories from watching Snyder direct on set.

Then Jake and Kevin shared a ton of stories from their busy junket weekend, which included interviews with Aaron Paul, Michael Douglas and Will Smith for Gemini Man!

Speaking of Smith, this week’s #BlendGame was #WillSmithBlend, and Kevin tried to guess all of our choices.

Finally, the show wound down with some big news for the guys to share, so stick around until the very end!
