That Time Dave Bautista Got In Trouble Over Avengers: Endgame Spoilers

Spoilers ahead for Avengers: Endgame

It’s been nearly two months since Avengers: Endgame arrived in theaters, and finally answered the myriad questions that fans had in the wake of Infinity War. It was a long year of waiting in between the release of those two Avengers flicks, with the cast and crew tasked with protecting the secrets of Endgame until it hit theaters. But some of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes were better at this job than others.

While Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo are known for spoiling Marvel plot points, Dave Bautista was actually guilty of this during the year break between Infinity War and Endgame. Bautista let slip that he was filming a role in the fourth Avengers movie, but there was a problem: Drax was dusted as a result of Thanos’ snap. The wrestler turned actor recently recounted getting into hot water about that spoiler, saying:

It looks like Marvel security could have been its own worst enemy in this case. Because so little information about the plot was given to the cast, Dave Bautista ended up in the dark about his character’s role in each of the movies. And since The Russo Brothers filmed Infinity War and Endgame back to back, there was some room for confusion

Keeping the contents of the Avengers movies was of the upmost importance ahead of their release, and great length were taken to protect the myriad plot twists that shocked audiences. Robert Downey Jr. was the only cast member given the full script for Endgame, while the Russo Brothers purposefully kept the cast in the dark about big scenes like Tony’s funeral at the lake.

Since Drax was dusted in Infinity War, Dave Bautista didn’t have a ton of screen time in Endgame. And considering how secretive the set was in general, it makes sense that the might have gotten mixed up and accidentally revealed a tidbit of information to the public.

Of course, most fans expected the dusted characters to somehow be revived throughout the course of Endgame‘s runtime. The MCU simply couldn’t continue on without the characters who faded away, including the Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, and Spider-Man. These heroes will likely be the building blocks of the next slate of movies, so clearly something had to change in order for the main timeline to continue on.

Avengers: Endgame is still in theaters now, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will occur sometime in Phase Four. In the meantime, check out our 2019 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
